From early childhood competing with and against my brothers was a daily occurrence. Being raised in the country with only the three of us as playmates, there was many a game of football, me playing quarterback for both teams and baseball, with me pitching for both teams. It had to have been a sight but that is how we kept ourselves entertained and learned how to get along together and get along against each other.Back then our idea of fishing was a Saturday afternoon on the riverbank in pursuit of catfish and crappie or an occasional trip to Lake Greenwood watching Dad grabble for big catfish. |

It wasn't until my teen years I got interested in fishing for bass. Just about any farm pond accessible by either bicycle or foot was fair game. It was in one of those where I caught an 8 1/2 pound largemouth on a plastic worm and from there, bass were the preferred target.During the summer after High School graduation I bought my first boat, a twelve foot Polar Craft Jon boat with a fifteen horsepower Evinrude outboard. I didn't even have the money to buy a trailer to put it on but the bed of Dad's truck worked fine, for a while. |

After high school I attended "The Citadel"(The Military College of S.C.)where I learned what I consider the most important aspect of my tournament fishing. The implementation of various visualization techniques. |

After College and being in the work force a couple of years I was able to buy my first fishing boat in 1992. A 19ft Javelin Fish and Ski boat. It didn't take long to find out a fish and ski boat is not the best of fishing boats so I made the upgrade to a Stratos 201 bass boat. Not making my bride of less than a year, Lisa, very happy at aaauuullll. |

Paul, Brad & Jeff At The Atlanta Motor SpeedwayIt was another two years before I fished my first tournament. I think we caught two fish and finished near the bottom of the pack. The most memorable thing about it was that I ran onto a shoal and ruined the prop on my boat.During that year I fished a few of the Wednesday night tournaments on Lake Russell but never really had any decent showing. It was during this time the idea of what has become the Five Lakes Tournament Trail was formed. |

Now some twelve years later I enjoy fishing every tournament I have the opportunity to fish. Some successfully and some not so successfully but all equally exciting and fun. While I enjoy meeting and getting to know the other tournament fishermen, as well as many of their families the adrenaline rush you get when you boat a fish that puts you in contention during a tournament is the ultimate high. That's what I fish for. |
