I fished this tournament on Lake Greenwood with Paul who substituted
for Brad who had a prior commitment.
Our first stop of the morning was off the point at Grand Harbor subdivision
and before I had the trolling motor down good Paul had hooked up with
the first fish of the day. The first time it jumped out of the water
it was obvious that this was a nice three pound fish so I was frantically
getting the net ready when on the second jump it threw Paul's swimbait
back at us.
The first thing out of Paul'smouth was that that was going hurt.
From there we moved on around the point and I cast across a pile of
rocks when a fish blew up on a merthiolate worm and when I set the hook
I came back with half a worm. Paul pitched a worm to the spot I got
bit and set the hook on our first keeper of the day, also what turned
out to be our biggest fish of the day weighing just over three pounds.
The second keeper, just over a pound, jumped on Paul's swimbait a
few minutes later off the end of a boat dock.
I finally got with the program and put a pound and a half keeper in
the boat casting my topwater worm just under a boat dock.
After making a few more cast we decided to make a move to the other
side of Lake to fish an area that was still in the shade. To no avail.
From there we moved back to the Adam's Cove area where I caught the
fourth small keeper of the day on a spot remover.
By this time the wind had started blowing 15 to 20 mph and we decided
to fish a pier the wind was blow across and I caught our fifth keeper,
about two pounds, on a spot remover.
We hit a couple of other spots picking up a couple of small fish and
by now it was past 1:00 and the prospects for any upgrade was pretty
bleak.
Then Paul pitched a pink worm over beside a shaded boat dock and caught
a two pounder giving us the 9 pounds 14 ounces we put on the scales.
Good for second place, a pound and a half out of first. Paul was right,
loosing that first fish hurt.
