Palmetto Bass Club--Feb 2 Lake SecessionThis was both the first tournament of the season but also the first with these guys. My Brother Brad and I decided to fish this tournament as a way to hopefully clear any "cobwebs" from a long winter and to shakedown the boat before the Five Lakes tournament the next week.I picked Brad up at 4:30 in Due West and just outside of town a skunk ran out in front of us and I was able to straddle it with the truck and neither of us heard or felt it hit the boat trailer. As soon as we got out of the truck at the boat ramp it was very obvious he got the boat trailer. That should have been a sign. After we got to the first spot and thawed out. (The temperature was in the high 20's.) We fished an hour and a half before getting the first bite on a Shakey Head. It was only a pound but a start. Thirty minutes later Brad put its twin in the boat. From there it all started downhill, we pulled up on a point where I broke my line setting the hook on two different fish, I missed one, lost one and Brad missed a couple of fish all on this one point. From there we moved around to several spots unsuccessfully and by now it was only thirty minutes before weigh in when I finally get a chance to redeem myself and put another fish in the livewell, and I miss it.We wound up with only those two fish and a spunk sprayed boat trailer. It took just over seven pounds to win that tournament.F.Y.I.-If skunk sprayed the pet supply store has a liquid that will eliminate the smell. |
