June 7 Clarks Hill Lake

The first fish of the day, just over a pound and a half, came on the fourth or fifth cast of the morning on a Gunfish. This fish was caught on the same spot the first fish of the day, in the Burned Children's Tournament, was caught a few weeks prior. Much like that day, another thirty minutes went by before the next keeper was caught, weighing barely a pound and also on the gunfish, at the pumphouse in Little River.

Another thirty minutes later the third fish of the day, weighing roughly two pounds, was caught at the mouth of Little River and Buffalo Creek.

A few minutes later Steve hooked up with his first keeper of the morning, weighing a little over a pound, also on a Gunfish. A couple of cast later a ten to twelve pound gar grabbed my gunfish and as we were positioning it to remove the hooks it made one last run and broke my favorite crankbait rod, a 7 foot St Croix Avid Series Cranking Rod.

After a couple of minutes of recovery time we moved up a few points where I caught our fifth keeper, another one pounder, on a Spot Remover.

By now the Sun was up and the was already in high gear so we moved to the one point I had been consistently catching good fish on. This spot is located just out of the Dorn Landing Cove.

Today we only managed a couple of non keepers and a catfish but in the back of the cove we filled out our limit with two more small keepers around a big brushpile.

I also figured I wasn't the only one who was catching fish on that point as Bradley Gunter and Dan Montgomery were giving it a thorough once over as we were in the back of the neck.

With our limit in the boat we moved to the shoal I had caught three very good fish the week before, just up from Wells Creek, looking to upgrade our weight.

On the back side of the shoal I caught our biggest fish of the day, weighing right at three pounds, off of a brushpile in ten to twelve feet on a Spot Remover.

From there we ran to several more spots, (including Bradley's and my point, but he beat back to it), hitting brushpiles and we caught several more fish but none that were any help.

We finished the day in fourteenth with 11.59 pounds.

The weather was clear with light winds and stifling heat over 100 degrees.
