Five Lakes Tournament Trail--Feb 9, Lake Hartwell

Had been prefishing Lake Hartwell for several weekends and while I wasn't catching a lot of fish the ones I was catching were of pretty good size. All seemed to be relating to brush in anywhere from six to twenty feet.

On tournament day we had over seventy boats participating and being the first tournament of the season Steve and I left the boat ramp last so I was somewhat worried about someone already being in my spot when we finally got to leave. Fortunately no one was there and we put four small keepers in the boat in less than an hour.

After fishing this area a little longer we decided to try a spot up in Conaross Creek I had caught some nice fish the Sunday before. This turned out to be a waste of two hours so we headed back to the area we caught our fish that morning.

By now the sun was warming up into the sixties so we flipped a row of submerged Christmas trees and picked up a couple of two and a half pounders and a small keeper. I had found another area similar to this just across the neck so we hit that area and finished off our limit with our biggest fish of the day, just over three pounds. We were also able to cull the smallest couple of fish up maybe another pound for a total of 14.82 pounds. Good for eleventh place.

The first spot out of the Money!
