Brad and I fished
this tournament, AKA the SC Highway Patrol Tournament, AKA the Trooper
Tournament. Anyway, we were lucky number 13 to blast off and had already
decided we were going to start fishing that morning in the Adam's Cove
area.
Started on the point
leading to the back of the first cut and immediately had what appeared
to be a smaller fish blow up on a buzzbait but missed.
About half way back
into the cut, Brad missed a small one pound fish on a pink floating
worm and I lost one roughly a pound and a half on a methiolate floating
worm.
As we approached
the back third of the cut I tossed my worm over beside a brushpile and
caught the first keeper of the day weighing a little over three pounds.
From there it got
fast and furious for the next thirty minutes or so and I lost track
of exactly how many fish we caught but we did have three fish in the
livewell weighing three to four pounds a piece and two more two and
a half pounds each.
From there, we quickly
moved to the middle of the cut adjacent this the one we had just fished
and Brad immediately caught another three and a half pounder.
A few minutes later
Brad cast up beside an irrigation pipe running beside a pier and had
a big fish swirl at his worm but missed it, I immediately cast my worm
over to the same spot and she grabbed it. I set the hook and had her
coming to the boat when she pulled off, at this point Brad pitched a
Spot Remover Jig to the same area and caught our fifth keeper over three
pounds.
Whether this was
the same fish or not I don't know but it was nice to have over eighteen
pounds in the boat at 8:15.
The rest of the day
we caught ten to twelve more keepers but none were big enough to cull
what we already had.
Of coarse it was
Saturday so like many of the weekends prior to this one we got to endure
the rain once again. The temperature was in the mid to high 60's first
thing in the morning and cooled of a few degrees during the day.
We finished fourth
with 18.15 pounds.
