Brad and I fished this tournament on Lake Greenwood. We blasted
off 47th(last)and our first stop of the morning was the point at Grand
Harbor.
On his third or fourth cast of the morning Brad got us on the board
with our first fish of the morning weighing a pound and three quarters.
It bit a pink topwater worm at the edge of a wooden pier.
Ten minutes later I caught our second keeper, weighing just over
a pound, on a chartreuse topwater worm at the back of the cove.
Another ten minutes went by and I made a cast beside an irrigation
pump when a two pound bass grabbed my white topwater worm but when I
set the hook I came back with half a worm. Brad pitched his pink one
to the same spot and as soon as his worm hit the water this fish rolled
onto his worm and came into the boat. This one was close to two pounds.
From there we fished another fifteen or so minutes without luck
and moved down to to the Hwy 34 boat ramp where I caught our biggest
fish, to that point, weighing a tad under 3 pounds on my white worm.
We then made another move to Scurry Island Cove where we caught
a couple of non keepers but then we came to a rocky point where I put
another two pounder in the boat. On the next cast caught a solid three
and a half pounder.
After making a couple of more runs down this stretch of bank, to
no avail, we moved on back into the cove where we caught a couple of
small fish of no use to us. We also ran across Travis Allen and Benny
Parker who we talked to for five or so minutes before we moving back
to Grand Harbor.
Fished the same stretch we started the morning on but this time
around there was no wind blowing as it did this morning. It was now
moving on eleven o'clock so we decided to take a little break and eat
lunch.
After that little recharge we tried the cove across from Adams'
Cove but didn't get a bite so we moved straight across to the point
at the mouth of Adams' Cove. Nothing there either.
It was now 12:45 and we had only fifteen minutes left before heading
back to the State Park to get everything ready for weighin.
Since it was so close we jumped across the cove to fish the retaining
wall real quick. As we were fishing we heard a big splash behind the
boat and noticed a big fish was in the process of trying to eat a big
bream(As big as your hand.). After the fish came up to the top two or
three times we saw it was a nice largemouth. We started throwing everything
imaginable trying to get this fish to bite but had no luck, so we started
fishing on down the retaining wall.
Just before getting to the end of the wall,
I made a cast, with a spot remover, that landed right up against the
brick wall. After turning the reel handle three or four times I noticed
I was not feeling the bottom and noticed my line was moving across the
water. I set the hook and immediately afterwards to the top of the water
comes a five pounder dancing across the water. Well, after a few anxious
moments Brad scoops it up with the net just as the hook falls out of
her mouth.
Whether this was the same fish we saw chasing the bream who knows,
at that point we didn't care and the time was exactly 1:00 so we took
off back to the State Park.
We finished 4th with a weight of 14.68 lbs.
The weather was overcast with a few showers and the temperature
in the mid to low 80's.
